Setting up your study environment

In this article Global Training News will look into how to set up your study environment.

One of the biggest factors that will determine your success in your online course is your study environment. In an online course, how you set up your study environment is almost entirely in your hands.

How your study environment is set up determines how successful you are at learning as well as retaining new information. The best way to achieve this is to have a space that is to be used strictly for your studies only. This means no TV, no video games and no mobile phones. Having a space like that is what will make you quickly get down to the business that brings you there which is studying.

Here are some important keys to having a good study environment:

(1)Ambience

Set your space up in such a way that once you are in it, you just want to get on with the business of studying. If you are studying during the day, it is important to have sufficient natural light in the room. If for one reason or another you have to study at night, make sure your bulbs are bright enough and have a desk lamp if possible.

When it comes to sound, different people like different things. While some prefer to study in complete silence, others like to hear some music playing in the background. Just choose what is best for you.

(2)Claim your own space

Although online courses give you a free reign when it comes to choosing how and where to study, you still have to find an ideal space to study from. You are not going to achieve much by studying in a room where people are telling stories or children are playing and shouting.

If there is a separate room available, claim it and let everybody know that you will be using it for your studies. Let your family or housemates understand that you need their cooperation.

(3)Have everything you need in your study space

Having all your tools within reach makes it easier for you to focus on the task at hand and eliminates little excuses to leave the room to pick stuff or do other things. Make sure you have enough pens, writing pads, highlighter markers and binders to store everything within the same space.

Having everything you need close to your desk is the best way to save time and conserve your energy.

(4)Proper technology

Incorporating the right technology into your studies is important to keep you engaged. That is why it is important to stay in touch with the latest technology in order to get the most out of your online course. Having the latest versions of Internet Explorer, OS X and Microsoft Office will go a long way in helping you avoid unnecessary downtime.

(5)The right tools

You are not going to achieve much by studying for your course by sitting on your bed. In fact, it will be an easier route to taking a nap than putting any work in. You need a sturdy study table and an ideal chair with sufficient backrest. If the chair is too uncomfortable, you will find it too difficult to concentrate on what you are studying. Find the right balance between being too comfortable and being plain uncomfortable.

That’s it in this article from Global Training News.
